Worlds[]

There are 12 worlds with 10 levels each. Each world has a theme and new mechanic. After beating the game you unlock speedrun mode.

First few worlds[]

The first worlds seem to be dark and dull. Nothing much yet. It's described as "Too boxy" by Lumi or the narrator. Later on in that world, Lumi reunites with her friends and adventure with them for a bit, before the screen glitches and her friends are out of sight.

Characters[]

The game includes 4 or 5 characters if you include the companion. It includes Lumi and introduces her friends: Red Cat, Green Cat and Blue Cat. If you're including The Purple One, then that makes it 5 or 6 characters.

Controls[]

ABP has 5 controls: up (jump) down (liquid, ice block) left, right and the rhombus (abilities or switch character). Lumi will take damage from damaging items (indicated as orange) which each remove one hitpoint (excluding lava or getting crushed by an orange block, which removes all three). If the cat loses all of these hitpoints, the cat is taken to the start of the room, or the last checkpoint of which the player reached.

Lore[]

ABP is the prequel to Cats are Liquid: A Light in the Shadows. It tells the story of Lumi and her friends before the events of A Light In the Shadows. It explained stuff like how it's connected to ALITS, and also explains minor stuff like why Lumi turns red when taking damage, why she is always smiling no matter how many lives are left, why she turns blue when she uses her liquid ability, and more. The game however does not mention the purple cat.
